Jeff Grimston - Training Director Jatcjgrim@aol.com |
|
| |
I graduated from the apprenticeship in 1989 and then worked in the field for 13 years before becoming Training Director in January of 2002. My grandfather, father, and uncle were all proud members of Local 252. As a third generation wireman, I have been around electricians my entire life. I enjoyed working with and teaching apprentices in the field. As Training Director I felt that I could be a positive influence, make a difference and contribute to our future. My door is always open so feel free to stop by the school, or you can reach me at (734) 475-1180. |

Bob Kosky - Instructor jatcbkosky@aol.com |
|

Bob started his electrical apprenticeship with the Ann Arbor Electrical JATC in 1972. After topping-out in 1976, he worked with the tools and also had the opportunity to run some change-over jobs in the auto plants and also ran service trucks for a couple of shops. In 1979 an unexpected opportunity with the JATC presented itself. Bob, a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, applied for the instructor's position with the apprenticeship program and spent a year of working and learning from George Perros before George retired from the instructor's job in 1980. Bob served as instructor and training director of the program until leaving in 1998 to open his own shop. The business stayed small with Bob and two journeymen, Tim Bortles and Kevin Pratt, staying employed until the shop was sold to Bay Arbor Electric, a new Ann Arbor start-up firm backed by Bayview Electric of Detroit. Bob worked for Bay Arbor as an estimator and project manager until leaving to fill a similar position with Utilities Instrumentation Services. When work slowed at UIS, Bob was laid-off and signed the book. During the next year he worked for various contractors on the Plumbers' and Pipefitters' Building at Washtenaw Community College, the Comcast Building, and the BSRB at the U of M. In late summer of 2003, he was asked if he would be interested in returning to the program as an instructor when Rudy Rodriguez retired. Since then he has been teaching the 4th and 5th years of the inside apprenticeship and the 2nd and 3rd years of the residential program as well as journeyman courses such as code update, license prep, photovoltaic system installation, motor controls and others. |
